PASSAIC PUBLIC LIBRARY

Library Code of Conduct

The passaic Public Library seeks to provide a safe and pleasant environment for all patrons.

it is expected that al patrons will conduct themselves with respect and consideration towards users and staff. To ensure this environment of mutual respect and consideration, the staff is committed to enforcing the following rules of conduct.

A. KEEP YOUR LIBRARY CLEAN

  1. Eating or drinking is not permitted.
  2. Patons must wear covering over their bodies and shoes. Patrons whose bodily hygine is offending is offensive as to constitute a nuissance to other patrons will be required to leave the building. Creating a physically offensive condition, including disturbing odors or infested clothing or personal effects may result in that patron being required to leave the building.
  3. No smoking of any kind is permitted.
  4. Animals are not allowed in the library except those needed to assist a patron with a disability

B. KEEP YOUR LIBRARY QUIET AND PEACEFUL

  1. The use of the following is not permitted in the library or around the entrance - radios, personal stereos, audio cassettes or CD players, televisions nad held video games or cellular telephones.
  2. Keep voices low and refrain from making disruptive noises.
  3. Courteous language is appreciated.
  4. Threatening, physically harming, or interfering with another person's use of librarypersonnel's performance of their duties is not permitted.
  5. Patron's shall not harass or annoy others through noisy or boisterous activities, staring at another person with the intent to annoy that person, by following another person abouth the building with the intent to annoy that person, by playing audio equipment so that others can hear, by singing or talking loudly to others or in monologues or by behaving in a manner which can be reasonably expected to disturb others.

C. KEEP YOUR LIBRARY SAFE

  1. Do not run in the library or around the entrance. Do not throw items of any type in the library or around the entrance.
  2. The use of bicycles, skates, rollerblades, and skateboards are not permitted in the library or around the entrance.
  3. No weapons of any type are permitted unless the patron is authorized by law to carry a weapon. In this case please notify the front desk.
  4. All children under the age of 7 must be attended by an adult.

D. YOUR LIBRARY'S RESOURCES ARE FOR ALL

  1. Do not steal or vandalize any library materials or properties.
  2. Keep magazines and newspapers intact; i.e. do not cut out coupons or offers.
  3. Patrons not reading, studying or using library materials in the manner that they were designed to be used, will be required to leave the building.

Patrons will be encouraged to adhere to the Code of Conduct. Anyone refusing to follow the Code of COnduct will be asked to leave. Thank you for your cooperation.
